5 out of 5 stars Good protective padding, fits well   February 25, 2009

My Kindle 2 and cover arrived today.

The cover clips on easily and securely. The Kindle has two small slots on the left side. Two clips on the cover latch into these slots. You can slide the top clip down to unlatch and release the Kindle. All the Kindle controls remain accessible with the cover on. (Unlike Kindle 1, the Kindle 2 on-off switch is on top.) It all seems well designed.

I bought the cover mostly to protect the Kindle when I'm traveling. And indeed, the cover front and back are both tough and well padded, with a soft felt lining, and look like they should provide good protection. The overall appearance is reasonably elegant.

The Kindle+cover total about 0.75" thickness. So the cover is roughly doubling the Kindle's natural 0.36" thickness. But since I want protective padding, this seems like a price I need to pay!

Overall this seems like an enormous improvement over the awkward Kindle 1 cover.

5 out of 5 stars K2 Amazon leather cover   February 25, 2009

My K2 cover is beautiful. It's sleek, black and leather. It does not look cheap at all. It was easy for me to put my K2 in the case and I have not had any problems with it coming unhinged from the cover. The cover easily bends back allowing me to comfortably read in bed and move around to get comfy. It doesn't hinder me from using my K2 or any functions at all. It actually looks like a leather journal, very chic. If anything changes, I will update my review.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Cover   February 25, 2009

I'm SO surprised to read the *negative* reviews on this cover. I'm a Kindle 1 owner who upgraded to Kindle 2. This case blows the first one out of the water. It SECURELY snaps your Kindle 2 in place and provides plenty of protection.

This is not SUMPTUOUS leather-- but it is leather and who expected more for 30-bucks. I love the nice Amazon Kindle metal badge on the cover. I give it FIVE stars and I'm picky about KINDLE STUFF.

Good job Amazon.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect companion for my Kindle   March 2, 2009

I had my Kindle for a full day without a cover because I ordered my Kindle with overnight shipping and used my Prime for my cover. Without my cover, I was constantly worried that I was going to scratch it or harm it in some way. When my cover arrived, I was instantly relieved.

Features:

1)Nice, leather, book-like appearence. I have never owned a reader before and I know that some are saying 'oh, it's too basic, or simple, or cheap-looking'. I guess I don't really know what that means, I don't really want to make a fashion statement, I just want something that I can carry around comfortably that still has the look and feel of a book.

2) Straps? What straps? I am not sure why a strap would be necessary. Again, this is my first reader, so I have nothing to compare to, but apparently the old Kindle cover had straps and some are disappointed that this one does not. I find this cover is perfect. It closes like a book (my books don't come with straps), and doesn't open until I tell it to. I've already dropped it twice, and it protected it both times, never coming open, or even partially open.

3)Nice, protective padding. While this will about double the size of your K2, you will feel comfort in knowing it is protected. The additional thickness doesn't bother me at all. Its thickness is comparable to that of an average paperback (instead of a magazine, as it is without the cover).

4)The fold back cover is my favorite feature. I like the option of opening my reader and just reading it like a regular book, or folding back the cover to read(akin to folding back a paperback book cover - which I never did, for fear of damage it). When reading with the cover folded back you will find it fits very comfortable in your hand and does not require any additional adjustments when changing pages. When it is time to close it easily closes back without any resistance.

5) The 'Kindle Hooks'. I am unsure why some here have posted that it will scratch your Kindle. I guess I can see that happening if not inserted correctly, or forced (if I could give half stars, I would deduct a half star for lack of enclosed instructions, but not worth deducting a full star). There are two hooks: the top one slides up and down, while the bottom one is stationary. You hook the bottom one first and then gently slide the top one down and into your Kindle. There should be no force necessary when doing this and should not cause any damage at all to your Kindle. If you feel as if you are having to force it or like you will injure your Kindle, you may not be being inserting it correctly and you should start again. This should be a smooth process that takes mere seconds. Upon completion, your Kindle is very secure. Again, when dropped my Kindle did not budge.

I take my K2 everywhere. If you are looking for a nice, basic, cover that you can take everywhere with the look and feel of a simple book, this is a perfect cover. I know there are fancier, more expensive ones out there, but this is the only cover I can see myself ever needing.

5 out of 5 stars Got it right this time!   February 25, 2009

This cover stays put! I wasn't impressed with the cover on the K1 because I couldn't seem to keep it on. It could have been user error, but I don't think so because my husband and daughter both had the same problem. I've only had this for 8 hours or so and I possibly should wait until I've used it for a few days to review it, but I'm impressed so far. It "hooks" into the K2 through little slots in the Kindle's side and it stays really well. The only thing (and I hesitate mentioning it because it's a preference thing and not a performance thing) is I don't like black. I prefer a color that will shout at me. It's just a little harder to miss bright red on a restaurant table. This cover, though, might just be worth trying to "dress up" rather than replace.
